Ink Types & Formulations

We carry multiple ink formulations so you can match the right product to your press, paper, and production requirements. Each formulation is designed for a specific combination of drying method, tack range, and substrate compatibility.

Oil-Base Inks

Our Patriot series is a general-purpose, laser-safe oil-base ink formulated with soy and vegetable oils. Oil-base inks set by absorption and oxidation, making them well suited for coated and uncoated papers on conventional offset and letterpress presses. They deliver strong color strength, fast set times, and reliable performance for everyday commercial printing. Nightly press wash-up is recommended.

Hybrid Oil / Rubber-Base Inks

Our Ideal series is a combination ink that blends oil-base and rubber-base properties into a single formulation. The added body works especially well with integrated dampening systems found on duplicator presses. Hybrid inks can be left on the press overnight without skinning and are suitable for uncoated papers and some lightweight coated stocks. Drier can be added to enhance drying when needed.

Rubber-Base Inks

Pure rubber-base inks dry by absorption only and will not skin in the can or on the press. They are a reliable choice for uncoated papers in letterpress and low-speed offset work where extended open time is an advantage. Rubber-base inks produce a matte finish with consistent color and are favored by letterpress studios for their forgiving press behavior.

Surface Oxidizing Inks

Surface oxidizing inks are formulated for printing on non-porous substrates such as Tyvek, foil, and acetate. These inks dry by chemical oxidation rather than absorption, forming a durable film on surfaces that cannot absorb conventional inks. Immediate press wash-up is required after use to prevent the ink from drying on rollers and blankets.

Metallic Inks

Metallic inks use finely ground metallic pigments to produce gold, silver, copper, and other reflective finishes on press. They add a premium look to packaging, invitations, certificates, and marketing materials. Metallic inks are oil-base formulations and should not be intermixed with rubber-base products.

Fluorescent Inks

Fluorescent inks deliver intense, high-visibility colors that stand out under normal and UV lighting. They are commonly used for point-of-sale displays, event posters, safety labels, and any application where maximum visual impact is required. Fluorescent pigments are inherently translucent, so results are best on bright white, uncoated paper.

Pantone Color Matching

MixMasters is a Pantone-licensed ink blender. We stock the twelve standard Pantone mixing base colors plus a selection of the most frequently ordered spot colors—ready to ship in 1 lb and 5 lb cans. For colors we do not stock as ready-made blends, we mix to order using licensed Pantone formulas to ensure an accurate match to the printed swatch in the current Pantone Formula Guide.

Our Pantone colors are available in both the Patriot (oil-base) and Ideal (hybrid oil/rubber-base) series, so you can specify the formulation that matches your press and paper requirements. Whether you need a single can of PMS 286 for a short-run job or a standing order of your customer's corporate color, we blend it to specification.
